Seller Policy

Everything you need to know about selling on Barberton Bidding Battles.

Ownership Declaration

When submitting a listing, you confirm that:

  • You are the sole lawful owner of the item being listed
  • The item is not stolen, encumbered, or subject to any lien or finance agreement
  • You have the full legal right to sell the item
  • All information in the listing is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge

False declarations may constitute fraud under South African law and will be reported to SAPS.

Listing Requirements

  • Minimum 1 clear photo; maximum 8 photos per listing
  • Accurate category selection
  • A clear, honest description of the item's condition — including all defects, scratches, dents, or non-functional features
  • All defects must be disclosed upfront; failure to disclose known defects may result in a forced refund
  • Serial numbers or IMEI numbers are required for certain categories (e.g. electronics, tools) — the form will indicate when these are needed
  • Minimum starting bid: R10
  • Reserve price (if set) must be equal to or greater than the starting bid
  • Buy Now price (if set) must be greater than the starting bid
  • Collection pickup area, address, and available times must be set before the listing goes live
  • All listings go through admin review before going live — you will be notified once approved or if changes are required

Platform Fee

9% of final sale price

The fee is deducted automatically from your payout once the sale is confirmed. There are no listing fees or monthly subscriptions — you only pay if your item sells.

Payout Timeline

  1. Buyer wins auction or uses Buy Now → payment is completed via PayFast → funds held in escrow
  2. Buyer and seller arrange collection within the deadline stated on the listing
  3. At collection, seller enters the buyer's unique collection code into their seller dashboard
  4. BBB admin is notified and manually reviews and releases the payout (typically within 24 hours)
  5. EFT sent to your registered and verified bank account (1–2 business days after release)

Banking details must be verified by admin before your first payout. Update your banking details in your Seller Profile.

Seller Strikes & Penalties

Strikes are issued by BBB administration for policy violations. Your strike count is visible in your profile. Three strikes result in a permanent ban.

1st strikeWarning issued. Listing under review may be paused pending admin inspection.
2nd strikeSuspension from creating new listings. Existing active listings may be removed.
3rd strikePermanent account ban. Outstanding payouts held for 30 days pending any dispute resolution.

Reasons for strikes include: misrepresenting an item, failing to honour a confirmed sale, not being available for collection, attempting to transact off-platform, or any other violation of the Seller Policy or Terms of Service.
